Whether you love the new iPhones or hate them, Apple must be doing something right.
AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel told Re/code that the demand for Apple’s recently announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was higher than that of the past two years, while Apple’s website confirmed that a whopping 4 million orders were placed in the first 24 hours. The frenzy began in the early morning of Sept. 12, when major sites – particularly Apple, T-Mobile and Sprint – collapsed as thousands of eager customers tried to place their orders. With inventories already wiped out, some customers will have to wait until at least October for their phones to arrive.
So what is it about these new iPhones that’s so irresistible? Some celebrities, like Katy Perry, say it’s the expanded storage:
Waking up to hear the news that the iPhone 6 has 128 GB has me saying OMG like: http://t.co/P6htBmIIfW

News sources also point to the iPhones’ larger screen sizes: 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches of HD retina display, respectively.
Not everyone is as enthralled with the bigger screen sizes, though. Forbes’ Mark Rogowsky laments the lack of a better battery, while Vine celebrity Piques humorously pointed out that bigger isn’t necessarily better:
Looking beyond the small spatter of negativity in the Twitterverse and elsewhere, there’s no denying the impressive features that both iPhones boast. In addition to the larger screens and a chic iPad Air-style design, with an ultra thin body and rounded corners, they offer processors that are reportedly 25 percent faster and have better cameras than those in the iPhone 5S. They also come with the new Apple Pay payment system, which supposedly eliminates the annoying problem of credit card swiping.
It’s unclear whether the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus is more popular, with no indication from Apple if one outsold the other. The larger iPhone 6 Plus is in shorter supply, with all models in the Apple online store projecting an estimated shipping time of three to four weeks and the iPhone 6 shipping within “7 to 10 days” after the launch date.
