The nine companies that make up Flashpoint Cohort 5 presented their pitches yesterday at the accelerator’s demo day held at the historic Academy of Medicine in Midtown Atlanta. This was the first of several demo days being held, with stops scheduled for Chicago, New York City, and Menlo Park, California.
Prior to the pitches, Flashpoint director Merrick Furst held a workshop titled “authentic demand,” a hallmark of the Flashpoint “Startup Engineering” curriculum.

The companies who presented were:
1. Acivilate, which provides a software tool that serves as portable online case file for case managers and clients to manage together. CEO Louise Wasilewski presented and indicated that she is currently seeking a technical co-founder.
2. DecisionIQ, a data analytics tool to track information from sensors on heavy equipment and provide long-lead prediction of failures.
3. Florence Healthcare, software that will move the hundreds of thousands of data points generated by a clinical trial from paper to computers, expediting the process and reducing the cost for pharmaceutical companies and care providers to foster innovation.
4. Gallium Group, which helps heavy equipment repair companies optimize their warranty claims and smooths the process to actually receive payments.
5. Generation DyNAmics, a team with a combined 40 years of experience in genetics that has a goal of providing pre-natal genetic screening for 90% of the population within a single generation to stop preventable genetic diseases.
6. GetLawyer, an app that provides case preparation for crucial legal services to underserved clients and connects them with legal practitioners.
7. Glaceau, a brand within The Coca-Cola Company that sent a team to Flashpoint to determine how to better address the adult hydration market.
8. Vault Stem Cell, which collects, stores, and manages healthy stem cells from healthy adults to be used later in the case of injury to improve the healing process.
9. Visit, a new service platform by N4MD CEO James Harris, that helps customers connect with craftsmen, artists, and makers for limited edition experiences. This is Harris’ second time through the program.
A notable development from this last group is the potential impact it will have on The Coca-Cola Company. While the Glaceau team did not emerge from the program with a product to place on shelves as it had originally envisioned, they plan on putting insights gleaned from the program to help speed up innovation for departments when they return. Specifically, they are investigating the launch of a “Drinkubator” as an internal project and hope to partner with Flashpoint for future projects and workshops.
