The presence of coworking spaces, like most everything else in the tech industry, has accelerated from zero-to-sixty over the past decade. Deskmag.com traces the origin of coworking spaces to meet-ups and events for hackers, primarily. What were adhoc venues have become the modern startup work environment. Coworking hubs from San Francisco to Miami to Nashville are powering the technology start-up industry by providing physical spaces that are conducive to collaboration without the distractions of coffee shops.
BeyondMVP scoured the Southeast to locate tech startup coworking hotspots and present the top 20 in the region.

Top Coworking Spaces in the Southeast – #20 – 11:
Right Space 2 Meet provides the logistical support every founder needs in an office. but it lacks the community building activities offered by most of the other coworking facilities but a conference room with an ocean view at both the Coral Gables or Brickell Bay locations almost make up for it; almost.
This space connects members to the resources of the city by being situated near Jacksonville’s tech and creative companies, as well as the city’s monorail people mover: Skyway. Jacksonville also happens to be home to One Spark, the world’s largest crowdfunding festival.
Self described as “no frills coworking, but with all the perks,” Cowork Uptown doesn’t disappoint. Located in a skyscraper in the heart of beautiful uptown Charlotte, this space provides what’s needed to work in the city, including access to public transportation and an onsite fitness center.
Roam offers three locations, one in the northern Georgia suburb of Alpharetta and two others on the top end of the perimeter that goes around the City of Atlanta. The Dunwoody location’s rustic decor gives that location a distinct feel. Members at all locations span the gamut from small business owners to consultants to technology startups. With weekly lunch lessons, free parking and a coffee bar that serves sandwiches and various coffee concoctions at market competitive prices, Roam is a good alternative to the corner coffee shop for the new workforce.
16. MEC261 – Miami, Florida:
Located in downtown Miami, MEC261 coworking members have access to a roster of investors and entrepreneurs in its mentor network. It also offers 24/7 access and free social events for members.
Perhaps most unique about this coworking location is that members can access free and discounted legal services offered by “Dade Legal Aid” and made possible by Knight foundation’s Venture law Project. However, a lack of regular educational programming, free parking and limited conference rooms kept MEC261 from ranking higher.
Center 615 takes cues from the all the artists in Nashville in designing a space conducive to creativity. With an aesthetic that is playful yet professional, this office space offers all the right amenities to boost productivity.
A rooftop sun deck, fitness center and professional screening room are a few notable mentions.
Refinery Nashville regularly fills its calendar with classes and events to benefits its members. Complete with free beer, free parking, and lower priced memberships, entrepreneurs can get a big bang for their buck at this space.
Due to the work of members at Grove Dallas, the West End, where Grove is located, has been dubbed as the Innovation District of Downtown Dallas. Members at Grove Dallas include social and civic innovators working towards improving their city through technology and innovation. Its new bike-sharing program is an example of a unique, community-focused amenity.
Located on Miami Bay, it’s not difficult to find oneself using adjectives like “luxurious,” “chic” and “sleek” to describe Key Working. With amenities such as a beachfront, boardwalk and swimming pools, it feels more like a vacation setting in an issue of Architectural Digest magazine than a coworking space.
Key Working members enjoy an ocean view, swanky gatherings and healthful customized lunch menu delivered to the office. Swoon!
A spin-off of code school Iron Yard, CoWork Greenville now houses many of the startups powering the scene in Greenville. Stop by on the first Friday of the month also known as Zero Day, where members join for a communal breakfast and 10-20 minute slots for sharing news, ideas and problems open to collaboration.
