Atlanta-based startup Hux raised $1.25 million in seed funding with $500 million via veteran venture capitalist Tim Draper’s Draper Associates and $750 million from Teresa Dau who manages the investment arm of the Dau family with a focus on Atlanta-based businesses. Draper Associates’ investments include Tesla, Indiegogo, Skype and Atlanta-based Yik Yak.
Founded in 2014 by Stanley Vergilis, James Loper and AJ Alix, Hux wants to empower service providers in the $800 billion local services industry. It provides an online marketplace where consumers can shop, book and pay for house-cleaning services and has plans to expand its marketplace to other cities including Austin, Charlotte and Miami over the next 18 months. It also is looking to expand its offering to include lawn, handyman and even pet-sitting services.
Hux was a finalist at the 2015 TAG Business Launch competition and a Venture Atlanta 2015 alum. The company plans to use the funds raised to add more development and marketing resources.
